Day 1 Hanoi Arrival

Day 2 Hanoi City Tour - Night Train to Lao Cai

We will spend a full-day tour to explore Vietnam’s capital city, including Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum (closed on every Monday and Friday), his traditional stilt house, the One-Pillar Pagoda, and the thousand-year-old Temple of Literature also known as the First University of Vietnam. In the afternoon, visit the Ethnology Museum (closed on every Monday) where you can learn about the costumes, customers and daily life of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups; Old Quarter Streets and Hoan Kiem Lake vicinity of Hanoi. In the evening, enjoy a traditional water puppet show – a unique Vietnamese Art form hailing from Southeast Asia’s wet-rice culture before transferring to train station. Meals on your own. Remark: Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum closes from September to November for annual maintenance. We will arrange the visit outside.

Day 3 Lao Cai - Bac Ha Market – Sapa

You will arrive at Lao Cai at around 6.00 am and enjoy breakfast in a local restaurant. Afterwards you will take the beautiful and winding mountain road to Bac Ha (3 hours driving). Here you will visit Bac Ha Market. This wonderful market is a great place for photos and shopping. You will have chance to meet different groups of ethnic people at the market. After visiting the market take a walk on small paths through the surrounding nearby villages and then drive to Sapa for overnight. Dinner on your own. Overnight at hotel.

Remark: Bac Ha Market is held only on Sundays. Other markets are held in the region on some other days of the week: Can Cau Market is every Saturday morning and the Coc Ly Market every Tuesday. Your exact itinerary does depend on the day of the week you arrive.

Day 4 Sapa - Y Linh Ho - Lao Chai - Ta Van – Sapa

This trip commences with a short walk through the town of Sapa before turning on a footpath running through vegetable gardens. You then descend the valley on a dirt trail through rice paddy terraces, enjoying and take the chance to capture the spectacular scenery on the way. Once reaching the narrow river running on the bottom of the valley, you will walk along its bank for a while and eventually arrive at Y Linh Ho village of Black H'mong minority. Here you take a rest and have lunch nearby the river. After lunch, the walk takes you deeper into Muong Hoa valley. You will pass through Lao Chai village of Black H'mong minority and then Ta Van village of Giay minority by following a popular trekking route. At Ta Van, you walk up to the main road and have a transfer back to Sapa. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5 Sapa - Night Train to Hanoi

You first travel by car uphill towards Heavens Gate. On the way, you can take a short walk to visit Silver Waterfall and then head to Heaven Gate, where you will be amazed by the breathtaking view of mountain surroundings including Fansipan, the highest peak of Indochina. You then continue your drive downhill on one of the most beautiful stretch of roads in Vietnam to Tam Duong, where you will meet the black Dao, who are trading in the town’s small market in their black traditional dresses. Capturing the landscape and the unique culture of this region surely adds up to your photographic diary. After lunch, you will start your trip to some minority villages on your way back to Sapa. You first visit Na Hum villages, inhabited by Black Thai, who are famous for their traditional stilt house surrounded by rice terraces stretching along the picturesque valleys. You then visit the Lu minority in Bo village where you may encounter the villagers while they are weaving their cloth. The last visit before you arrive back to Sapa is to Chu Va village of Flower H’mong and having a nice experience of watching and take pictures of the children playing curiously around in their very colorful custom. In the evening, drive to Lao Cai Station for the night train back to Hanoi. Dinner on your own. Overnight on the train in an air-conditioned cabin with soft sleeper berth (4 persons per cabin).

Day 6 Hanoi - Halong Bay Tour

Leave Hanoi this morning and head straight to Halong bay a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site with its 3,000 islands of towering limestone dotting the bay and Gulf of Tonkin (180km – 3.5 - 4 hour driving). After arriving at noon, you will board a beautiful boat for an overnight cruise on Halong Bay with an excellent menu of fresh seafood. Lunch and dinner are served on boat. Overnight on board.

Day 7 Halong Bay – fly to Danang - Hoi An

Wake up early in the morning to enjoy aquamarine water of the bay at its best. After tea break, the boat continue to cruise quietly through spectacular limestone formations of Halong Bay. Enjoy this more isolated bay's spectacular and unique islands of the bay. Return to Halong harbour after a brunch for transfer directly to the airport for your onward flight to Danang. Welcome by local guide on arrival in Danang city and transfer to your hotel in Hoi An Town (30km - 45mins driving) for check in. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 8 Hoi An City Tour - Boat Trip

With its stunning mix of architecture, that tells a story of days gone by, to the colourful boats bobbing in the harbour, Hoi An is has a charm and style all of its own. Once a 15th century fishing village, the town is now a renowned for its tailors, galleries boutiques and of course its food! This morning, explore the beautifully restored town starting with the Chua Ong Pagoda, dating back to 1653 and built in honour of the Chinese general Quan Cong, who is worshipped by many as a symbol of loyalty and justice. Next, pop into Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, to see the Jinshang Temple which is dedicated to the goddess of the sea and the protector of sailors. From there it’s a short walk to Tam Ky House, a 200 year old ancestral house and finally, stroll across the often photographed 17th century covered bridge built by Japanese craftsmen. The beautifully built bridge doubles as a temple and is a major landmark of Hoi An. In the afternoon, take a short boat trip down the river and visit a craft village where local artisans make ceramics. Then visit a local boatyard full of traditional fishing boats and the unusual round basket boat that ply the water. You will then be driven back to your hotel by late afternoon. Meals on your own. Day 9 Hoi An - Danang – fly to Ho Chi Minh City

Day 10 Cu Chi Tunnels - Ho Chi Minh City Tour

After breakfast, depart for Cu Chi where you will visit the amazing tunnel network built by Vietnamese fighters during the American War. Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the late morning. After lunch break, we will set out to visit the former French colonial capital – Ho Chi Minh City or also called as Saigon by many locals. Main historical sites include Old Saigon Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral, Opera House. Round off your day at famous Ben Thanh market where you can look at something for souvenirs. Day 11 Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong Delta - Can Tho

Today we depart from Ho Chi Minh City to explore Mekong Delta. Arrival in Phong Nam Pier, we will cruise along An Hoa River, visit charcoal workshop, coconut-processing workshop. Stop at brickwork to see how to make bricks in handy traditional style by printing and baking and visit rice paper cake workshop. Turn on natural scissors creeks where they look smaller and smaller to go to village. Stop at candy workshop, have a look and try some. Take a walk to family workshop making sleep mats. Take a tuk tuk on shady paths, pass by green rice fields and vegetable plains. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, take rowing boat along water palm creek and boat back to Hung Vuong Pier. Afterwards you will transfer by car to Can Tho City and check in to your hotel. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 12 Cai Rang Floating Market - Ho Chi Minh City

In the morning, set out on a boat trip to the lively, colourful floating markets of Cai Rang. Board a traditional motor boat to visit the floating market. Lunch at a local restaurant. Day 13 Ho Chi Minh City – fly to Siem Reap

Day 14 Temples of Angkor Tour

The day begins at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, where you will begin your exploration of the centerpiece of this ancient city, the Bayon. The Bayon holds 54 towers decorated with more than 200 enigmatically smiling stone faces. The morning tour also visits the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Terrace of Elephants and Terrace of Leper Kings, as well as Ta Prohm Temple, famously featured in the movie, Tomb Raider.

In the afternoon, head to the famous Angkor Wat - the best preserved of all the Angkor temples. There is ample time for a thorough exploration of this huge architectural wonder before climbing to the top of ancient Pre Rup temple to watch the sunset over the jungle. Dinner on your own. Day 15 Tonle Sap - Siem Reap – fly to Luang Prabang

A short drive south of Siem Reap is followed by a boat tour of the floating villages and surrounding wildlife. The rest of the day is free for leisure activities until you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Luang Prabang. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 16 Luang Prabang City Tour

Enjoy a tour around the atmospheric town of Luang Prabang. Visit Wat Xieng Thong, the finest example of Luang Prabang architecture, as well as the gilded carved façade of Wat Mai. Also visit the National Museum, the former Royal Palace, where relics from Laos' royalist past remain.

Travel south of town to the Kuang Si Waterfall. Stop along the way to visit the Living Crafts Centre, a place where you can meet weavers and learn about textiles, while helping keep these traditions alive. At the falls, crystal water cascades into idyllic turquoise pools. Bring a bathing suit if you would like to swim! Also take time to visit the nearby Sunbear Refuge to learn more about the poaching of these endangered creatures. Return back to Luang Prabang in the early afternoon. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 17 Luang Prabang

If you wish, get an early start (6:00am or so) and go watch or participate in the traditional Lao rite of Almsgiving to the monks. In the city, some 300+ monks file through silently collecting alms. This is an amazing sight and your guide will be on hand to demonstrate and explain this important ritual. Afterwards, visit the Morning Market and see an array of meats, vegetables and spices the locals use in their cooking. Return to your hotel for breakfast before cruise to Pak Ou Buddha Caves.

Cruise up the Mekong River to the mouth of the Ou River. Visit the sacred Pak Ou Buddha Caves, long considered a holy spot for the Lao people. Locals make pilgrimages to this site to place Buddha images inside the caves to make merit. On the way, stop to visit Ban Xang Khong, where the weaving of Lao textiles still takes place on ancient wooden looms. Enjoy lunch before your return cruise back. The rest of your day is at your own leisure.

In the late afternoon enjoy a one hour walking tour of Luang Prabang’s atmospheric night market. Here you’ll find perhaps the most extensive collection of traditional and ethnic handicrafts for sale in Laos, the stalls overflowing with colourful textiles, sumptuous quilts, carvings, basketry, ceramics, clothing, handmade paper goods and even Beer Lao T-shirts. This beguiling market is open daily from dusk until about 10pm. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 18 Luang Prabang - Elephant Village – Departure

After breakfast, travel outside of town to the Elephant Village. Be welcomed by camp staff and participate in briefing information about the village. Enjoy a 1 hour jungle elephant ride. Relax along the Nam Khan River with coffee or green tea. Return back to the Luang Prabang town in the early afternoon. At leisure, until you are transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
